I'll try and get creating at one point, though my total wiki contributions so far include additions to the Sinister Dexter article and creation of Union Jack (magazine). Both of which where pounced on by proper editors within a day or so and cleaned up heavily XD

Looking very cool. Now that i have a mobile that was made this side of the opening of the Millenium Dome and widespread use of the term "Information Superhighway" (how long as it been since you heard somebody say that?) i might have to check out this rok thing.

Also, "Little to work with"?? i think the longest panel description i've ever written is: "Minet returning fire out the back of the car, as Eugene weaves around a 2CV, one biker is hit".

But then i also do the art so it's no' too bad. Not that the resulting panel really followed the script anyway... I drew a 4CV for a start...

Take as long as you need, we are just excited to see a long time Strip of ours given a fresh spin by a quality creator. Due to having no free time until I work out how to cut sleep out (where are the sleep machines we were promised!) My productivity has gone right down. Sucks not having time to draw.

I'm suprised you don't get a reply from Bristol - while i think their website is very badly done for such a big con they've always emailed me back pretty quickly. I'd say you'd be lucky to get a table thou as the exhibitor booking forums were posted out at the end of august/start of september. Thou never say never try dropping them an email again, can't hurt.

Then again that manga-like one with the cutsey creatures and the monster in the lake was pretty awful, i know there is FAR better stuff out there... not least High Maintenance, or perhaps even one of the original stories in Spaceship Away

I am not totally unsupportive of what you're trying to do, but you could at least have made the effort to spam our most recent post! Or better still maybe even email and ask whether this is something we'd like to promote/get involved with?

Also, that £10 "administration charge" is pretty suspect. Can Richmond really be so strapped for cash that you you need to fleece comic creators in this way? Can't you raise the council tax or something?

Liveline: Comics Open (1 March - 13 April 2008)

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. In 2006-7, over 500 individual artists (excluding those participating in Arthouse) exhibited work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries - Orleans and Stables Galleries, Twickenham and the Riverside Gallery in Richmond. Since 2005, there have been 4 exhibitions dedicated to or incorporating comic art. Deadline end of January 2008.

In 2008, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for the second of our comic open exhibitions. We are seeking original artwork (digitally created work is accepted) and printed comics by up-and-coming and established artists who are self-published or work for small-scale or independent publishers.

· Artists can submit up to 5 original works (and 5 comics) either via A4 sized photographic prints, colour printouts or high-resolution jpegs submitted on CD. Original artwork is not accepted. Comics can be submitted.

· Please clearly label each submission with: artist’s name, title of work, publication, date, media, approximate size and price before commission if the work is for sale (the gallery will add on an additional 40% commission to the artist’s price).

· In addition, please enclose contact details, an artists statement and if possible a CV.

· There is a £10.00 administration charge (which also contributes towards exhibition costs); £7.50 concessions (please include proof). Please make cheques payable to ‘L.B.R.U.T’. Your submission will not be accepted without payment.

· If you would like images or comics returned, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Successful artists will be contacted by email or in writing approximately two weeks after the deadline.

I've always believed it was voluntary. Blimey, I've published dozens of comics over the past decade or so and I've never done that. I can't believe you have to do it, otherwise it gets ridiculous, with everyone who puts out a photocopied booklet having to deposit with the British Library. Madness, I tells ya!

Hopefully the Edinburgh and Cardiff libraries are only interested in Scottish and Welsh publications of which ours is neither.

The other two libraries are the Oxbridge ones, presumably this being one of their ancient rights similar to being allowed to eat swan and receive a stipend from the KGB. I will only send copies to them if legally compelled to.

Have responded to the initial BL email now, so we'll see if they come back with anything regarding the other places.

Hmm, i had heard about this, but i thought it was voluntary, and that you had to give them 5 copies (for places around the country, ie London, Edinburgh, Cardiff etc). Also that doing that then gave you an ISBN number and all the legal crap that goes with that (not least that the number would then have to go in each copy XD). But that page makes it sound a lot simpler, so i better send them a Scum Slaughter eventually XD

Ah yes, Promethea. One day I will give that another go but I do have serious issues with Moore's "I'm a real magician" stuff of which Promethea is a prime example.

That's an interesting list, my good man - certainly surprising to see Terra Obscura on there. It's enjoyable enough, but surely Promethea is both technically and thematically stronger, by a long shot? Certainly, of the ABC oeuvre, if you give League honourable exclusion, Promethea is the crowning effort of that line, I think. (LXG is the most enjoyable). The last few issues of Promethea contain some of the most wildly adventurous experiments with comics language that he's ever committed. For me, though, From Hell would have to come firmly at the top of any list relating to The Great One. It's never less than utterly astounding and, to my mind, it's a "true" graphic novel.

I love Watchmen, obviously, but I think my appreciation of it is occassionally dimmed by all the sub-standard imitations that followed it (but you have to remind yourself that wasn't his fault). I have a special soft-spot for The Kiling Joke which will never fade, but even that has been slightly dimmed by the scavenging way that the story has been ham-fistedly appropriated in to mainstream Bat-continuity.

In any case, The Special One's greatness is without end!

I definitely need the character to hate all officers and to be justified in doing so. However I also need to ensure that the viewpoint of the strip does not simply reflect the character's view. Bloody difficult!

Some more reflection is probalby called for, and maybe a viewing of some old Sharpe episodes.

Hmm, you could always have him lead by a cowardly officer who surrenders to the enemy to save himself (as they will interrogate him later) and leaves his men to be executed by a cackling villain. However the guy only gets wounded and as the enemy soldiers move in to finish him off a platoon led by a better officer moves in and rescues them. But than again that'd only make him hate cowardly officers and not all of them... Though the collaborator and cackling enemy leader could then be bought back in a future "suprise" revalation XD

With Chris’ new family taking up a lot of his time I’m not sure if we are going to be doing the web comix thing next year, I would like to if we can get issue 2 of the walking wounded ready in time. We are definitely doing Bristol.

Loved the story, and i'm loving the footie strip too. I've been buying old Valiant, Victor, Hotspur etc annuals so it strikes a chord XD. It's a wee bit early yet but are you planning on going to the UK Webcomix Thing 2008? hopefully i'll be selling something there too... a "stuck in 1910" picture-story paper of the kind George Orwell was unenthusiastic about. Now there's a tagline.
